Donations

As You Are is a community-based organisation. We believe that professional therapeutic intervention should be available to everyone and is an effective way to relieve psychological distress. Being a non-specific service on the border of East and West Sussex we are able to provide a service that aims to be accessible to all.

Counsellors at As You Are have been working effectively with both adults and children on a huge range of issues. We offer a safe and professional service which allows time for the client and counsellor to develop a trusting relationship where they can work on difficult and complex issues. Your donations can help with service provision or you could pledge something for a specific branch of our service. For example:

£120 would pay for someone to attend 24 counselling sessions

£40 would allow someone working in the local community to access our course on working with bereaved children

£90 would enable a couple to attend our Bereaved parents group

£10 would pay for materials to create a jar of memories for a bereaved child

Head Forward is a comprehensive information gateway, covering general mental wellbeing topics as well as local mental health services and events run by any type of provider. It focuses on positive and practical ways to move forward from mental distress, and links general information to local services and events wherever possible. It provides unbiased information that is regularly updated and the editorial content is guaranteed to be independent and impartial.

Samaritans - 24 hours a day support for people in distress

Counselling Directory - a support network of UK counsellors and psychotherapists, with information on their training and experience, areas of counselling covered, fees and contact details.

The Big Lottery Fund - for information on funding from the National Lottery.

Board of Directors

As You Are continues to grow and is looking to recruit to its Board of Directors as follows.
Treasurer, who will maintain an overview of As You Are's finances, prepare budgets, cashflows, reports for committee meetings, draw up financial policies and contribute towards other relevant areas such as annual accounts, payroll and project budgeting for fundraising applications where needed.
Health or social services. With knowledge of our client groups and the impact of their life experiences on daily living and how our service is best able to provide appropriate and safe service provision, we would appreciate input from someone with Health or Social Services background.
Business Management. We recognise that today groups with charitable aims need to survive as companies. We would welcome a director who has experience and knowledge of marketing, customer service, promotional work and looking for new business opportunities to enable the organisation to compete in the business sector and move us towards sustainability.
HR experience. With our team of 22 counsellors and other volunteers our team is increasing all the time and we would really value the support of someone with an HR background to ensure that we are providing the best possible environment for our employees and volunteers.
There will be bi-monthly Board meetings, which will last up to 2 hours.

Fundraisers

We are seeking fundraisers to help secure income from all sources. Involvement in all aspects of fundraising would be welcome including new activities such as sponsored events and fundraising on the Internet to researching funding databases and helping with grant applications.
